Title: Another 'mystery' tool
Post by: Big Gee on August 14, 2016, 06:47:38 PM
My mate Stephen has been rummaging again, and found yet another old 'mystery' tool on his farm.

We both think it might be some kind of wire puller - what do you think?

Let's see if anyone can beat 'ol Scary Crow to the punch on this one!

Given the weight & size of that 'needle' Spuds, you'd have to be one of the Nephilim to handle it!

I think the 'ring'/ 'loop' may be to anchor the end of a wire, and the tool is then levered against a fence post to pull it taught. But that's only supposition. It's obviously an agricultural tool from a past era, that was was purposely made for a specific job, but what? We're yet to solve the mystery.

The closest I can is a shepherds fold bar. It would be driven into the ground so that wicker could be folded around it to make hurdles.

Hmm an interesting slant on it. Not sure if it fits that use though Tommo. Around these parts, where the tool was found we don't have much wicker use - only grass, heather and rushes grow on the moors and mountains where we keep our sheep! Wicker is for those lusher lowland pastures further east!

No I don't think it's a shepherd's aid. I'm still going for the fencing tool. Come on Scary, surely you've found it out by now!!

We mustn't admit defeat for this one.
