Decent weather here today so made a flask of coffee loaded the rotovator into the car and headed for the plot..  Was happy with our rotovator not been used since last year but started with the first pull of the cord thats Honda for you reliability .. So we  got a few areas turned over plot looks so much better now since we cut the over grown hedge back lets so much more light onto the plot ..   Must  remember to take the camera next time to take a few pictures ..  Good day had and a nice chinese takeaway when we got home ..

Well me and me mate, Steve, had a full 1:30 to 4:30 afternoon non-stop Apple washing, crushing, pressing, juice extracting, barrel filling, cider making time.

I was absolutely knackered ( with a capital 'F' ). Still, I've now got 20 gallons on the go and Steve got 13 gallons to take home. Not bad, 33 gallons of pure, unadulterated apple juice in 3 hours.

Only 3 bottles of last year's finest. And that was after we'd finished and cleaned up. It's pretty strong stuff, very drinkable and has the tendency to make you lose concentration and become feeble. I count a half litre bottle as most of my five-a-day.

Was that 3 bottles each ??  sounds like a good drop of stuff and can see why you only drank it after work ..

Yep, 3 x half litre bottles each = 1.5 litres.....known as 'falling over water'  in our house It's around 6%

Mind you I made one the came in at around 14% a few years back, took some to a mates barbecue. He guzzled it down and was last seen crawling round his garden barking like a dog. He still has no memory of it to this day.

You are welcome to come over and try it anytime.

Nice design and build that Dave. It'll take quite a few wheelbarrows of soil to fill it.

It's very easy to stay in the warm and become in-motivated at this time of year. Cold outside, gets through to your bones especially when it's cold AND damp. I really envy grizzly bears being able to a) eat absolutely everything in sight, b) be attractive to the opposite sex for being massively overweight, c) crawl into a nice snug hole and go to sleep until all the bad weather has gone.

I was thinking about Grizzlies because I was pruning my 50 blueberry bushes yesterday and I know how much bears love this fruit. I was wondering  about how these swamp loving plants had evolved with their main 'Predators' bears, birds and rodents, each talking the fruits in their own way. Of course birds and rodents just pluck the fruits leaving virtually no damage whilst bears wade in ripping jaws full of fruits, twigs, leaves etc, sometimes smashing their way through overgrown bushes to get at 'the good stuff' to gorge on these blue wonderberries.

It put my mind at rest, really, as I carefully pruned out some older wood in the knowledge that these plants are as tough as old boots and that nothing I did could really harm them.

Funny how your mind works isn't it.
