Fifty varieties
« on: March 26, 2017, 11:17:47 PM »

Watched one of those relocation progammes the other day during the programme they visited a orchard in the grounds of a big estate and there was a apple tree there that had 50 different types of apple on it ..  If you have a tree how many different apples do you have on it or how many would you like to grow on it ?..

A lot of that was done as a novelty thing, or out of curiosity to see how many different varieties you could graft on a single tree. In theory I don't think there's a limit as long as you can find an unused rootstock branch on the tree to carry out the graft.

Quite a satisfying hobby.

Also, I may be mistaken but somewhere in the back of my mind ( probably made it up in a dream) I thought there was a guy in USA who was going for 1000 varieties.

On the subject of apples I tried some of this year's cider last night  ThU32:-)  probably the best one I've ever made.
